LITTLE BIG PORTRAIT of JESSICA SBARAGLIA
FORMER MODEL, SHE NOW GROWS ORGANIC VEGETABLES IN MONACO
Swiss born Jessica Sbaraglia, founder of Terre de Monaco grows vegetable and aromatic plants since June 2016 in a 400m2 garden at the Monte Carlo bay. The Blue Bay chef Marcel Ravin is delighted to use these organics products more than local!
Junior tennis player, model, and graduate from a business and a design school, Jessica had several lives before going into organic agriculture.
She arrived in Monaco in 2010 to develop her own design company in the boating industry. Later she became in charge of PR for luxury car manufacturers such as Ferrari or Mc Larren and also for Formule E. “I loved this period but I was missing something”- She felt nostalgic about her childhood in the Swiss Jura where her parents grew their own vegetables garden. “We were self-sufficient as in summer we were freezing our vegetables for the winter time. These were good family sharing moments and I was missing the authentic taste of these vegetables.”
The time to train into organic agriculture and into permaculture to lean about sustainable, agriculturally productive, non-polluting and healthy settlements and her dream came true “ At the beginning, it has been hard to convince that it is possible to grow vegetables in small spaces and still be profitable. But Jessica, despite her youth is very determined.
She won her bet today, with more than 1000 Square meters of garden split into 4 different allotments and already 280Kg of collected fruits and vegetables. "My project is already viable and the beauty in Monaco is that we can cultivate all year long"
Among her clients, the Albert II foundation, the Caisse Sociales of Monaco and the Odeon Tower.
Jessica also offer to private individuals the possibility to transform their balcony in a vegetable garden. She also organizes gardening workshops for children from 7 to 12 years old on Wednesdays afternoons. Her next challenge? Re-create the satus of farmer in Monaco- No doubt that she will succeed!
